National Volunteer Week 2021

The National Volunteer Week theme for 2021, The Value of One, The Power of Many, reflects on the awe-inspiring acts of kindness by millions of individuals AND the magic that happens when we work together towards a common purpose. This past year, we have seen people supporting family, friends, neighbours, and strangers, people standing up to systemic racism, and people sharing insights on how to create a more just and equitable society. We recognize the value of the caring and compassion that each one has shown another, and we recognize the power of people, organizations, and sectors working together.
- Taken from Volunteer Canada, National Volunteer Week 2021
National Volunteer Week, this year having taken place April 18 - 24 2021, is a time for us to recognize and thank the incredible volunteers in our community for the work they do. This year, as we continue to thank the volunteers of Greater Sudbury, we extend a special thank you to everyone who has stepped up to help others over the past year as we have been battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Workshop
For National Volunteer Week, we hosted a workshop run by one of our Board Directors, Catherine Poulton, titled 'You Belong Here: The Science of the Hive' on April 21. We were excited to see some of our community members, partners, and volunteers participate in the interactive workshop!

Since we last celebrated National Volunteer Week, we have launched some great new volunteer programs and celebrated some amazing work done by our community volunteers!
Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, we've been working hard to keep the members of our community engaged and involved, helping to build one another up, and lend a hand. If you'd like to learn more about our programs, our volunteers, and more, give our office a call at 705-560-6661!

Youth Engagement Council - Our group of youth volunteers has been working hard to find ways to engage youth, and the community at large, in volunteering, going above and beyond what we had hoped for our pilot year!
COVID-Virtual Activity Pods - The seniors participating in our Pod program have been working hard to give back to the community in any way they can, collecting donations for the Walden Food Bank, winter wear for schools, and writing thank-you notes to our first responders!

City of Greater Sudbury Virtual Infrastructure Project - We've got volunteers involved in teaching individuals how to use the digital devices the city has installed in community settings!
