We have a dedicated board with vast and varied experience, all with a passion for volunteering.

Jessi Campbell
President
Jessi has been a Board Member for several years with Volunteer Sudbury. She is a mom of two, and has lived in Sudbury for 7 years. Working in the non-profit sector for 5 years, she recently made the switch to Health and Safety. Jessi believes that providing volunteers with positive and rewarding opportunities is extremely important, and helps to ensure that Volunteer Sudbury aids in creating that atmosphere with our member organizations.

Mary Michasiw
Director
Mary has been an active part of Volunteer Sudbury for over 14 years. A former teacher, she witnessed various learning curves, challenges, and changes as she provided a voice on the board. Mary sees Volunteer Sudbury as a valuable resource in the community, and has enjoyed being in the community as a Board Director in the City's Civic Award Selection, Senior's Advisory Panel, and more. It is important for her to do whatever she can to make the city a better place for everyone!

Doug Strasser
Treasurer
Smart, sexy, modest — all words often used to describe this board member. But, there's only one word that truly sums him up... and that's volunteer. A Sudbury native and perpetual brainstormer, Doug is thrilled to be a part of Volunteer Sudbury! A background in finance and education, he currently finds himself as a financial analyst for the European fin-tech TransferWise. Doug is excited to be bringing his skills and fresh ideas to Volunteer Sudbury, driving organizational growth and better community engagement.

Catherine Poulton
Vice President
Catherine Poulton is the Wellness Coordinator at Cambrian College. Catherine has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Law and Justice, Bachelor of Education and a Master’s Degree in Education and is a Certified Resilience Trainer, and certified in Applied Positive Psychology. Under Catherine’s leadership as Wellness Coordinator, Cambrian has created a culture of wellness and well-being on campus.

Tanaka Chakwesha
Director
“I moved to Sudbury in 2010 and instantly fell in love with Sudbury and the community”. Growing up playing various sports, including football at Carleton University, Tanaka understands the importance of community and local support. Tanaka is a new board member of Volunteer Sudbury and brings with him a financial education background along with over 4 years experience working in financial services. Tanaka is excited and thrilled to be a part of an organization that strives to grow a better community not only for today, but for a better tomorrow.

Barb Nott
Director
Barb specializes in volunteer management training, and has served on the Volunteer Sudbury Board for over 16 years. Along with serving on the board, she is very involved in the community in various roles in which she provides her expertise. From volunteering with the United Way, Pond Hockey Festival on the Rock, and contributing to the betterment of the community through the Senior Advisory Panel, Age Friendly Committee, and GSERV.

Karen Makela
Director
With over 34 years of Municipal and Board Governance experience at the National, Provincial and Local level, Karen looks forward to helping Volunteer Sudbury build healthy communities, through quality customer service outcomes and exceptional programming opportunities. As a Director of Parks and Recreation, Karen has extensive experience in staff and volunteer recruitment, training, retention, deployment and recognition. A dedicated lifetime volunteer, Karen is a member of the Walden Winter Carnival Committee, Christ Church Advisory Board, and "Grant Writer" for the Walden Senior Citizens and Pensioners.
