Keeping Seniors Warm

On Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021, The Volunteer Sudbury/ Benevolat Sudbury team had the pleasure of volunteering for the Keeping Seniors Warm initiative; partnering up with local seniors to assist them in shopping for warm winter clothing.

Keeping Seniors Warm is an initiative of the Greater Sudbury Seniors Advisory Panel and seeks to address the need for warm clothing for our winters, as well as isolation for seniors in our community. Money is raised every year to sponsor seniors for a day of shopping for warm winter clothing at Giant Tiger.

Seniors who are at least 55 years of age are able to spend up to $150 dollars for items like coats, boots, mitts, hats, sweaters, and other clothing that will keep them warm during the winter. The program is run by many incredible volunteers in the community, with the support of staff from the City of Greater Sudbury.

Sudbury Summer Scavenger Hunts

Thank you to all community members who participated in our 2021 Sudbury Summer Scavenger Hunt! On the weekend of August 14-15, participants embarked on a trip around our city to take and submit photos from a list that was shared to our social media accounts.

What's more, we held a Virtual Scavenger Hunt that had individuals explore our website and volunteer database while searching for hidden clues!

In total, we are proud to announce we had twenty groups register for our scavenger hunts, and four lucky winners will receive prize packages full of donations from local businesses!

Below are some of our favourite snapshots from the weekend-long Sudbury photoshoot!

Virtual Volunteer Fair

From July 25-31, 2021, Volunteer Sudbury/Bénévolat Sudbury partnered with local organizations to bring awareness to volunteer opportunities in our city through our first ever Virtual Volunteer Fair!

Hosted on our social media accounts, we shared information about impactful community organizations and their volunteer needs, and topped off the week with a giveaway for our audience. This initiative would not have been possible without the collaboration of our wonderful partners, as well as the generous donations provided by our event sponsors.

Our team would like to thank everyone who participated in our event and helped promote volunteerism in Sudbury. We are glad to call our first ever Virtual Volunteer Fair a success!

Virtual Crochet Night

On July 20, 2021, members from our team hosted a public, virtual crochet night via Zoom. Open to all skill levels, this event had participants and team members alike sharing stories and anecdotes while they knit and crocheted clothing and accessories for their loved ones.

If this is an initiative that you would like to see happen again, reach out and let us know!
