We believe in increasing the awareness and importance of volunteerism. We believe volunteering should be the life choice of every citizen. We believe in partnerships with organizations that support the spirit of volunteerism. We believe in quality, excellence, and accountability in everything that we do. |
Volunteer Sudbury was established in 2003 and since that time we have worked to build a presence within Greater Sudbury and establish our organization as a central hub for voluntary action, promotion and education.
Working in conjunction with Volunteer Canada on a national level, other community-based volunteer centres and our local partners, Volunteer Sudbury has focused its efforts in three primary areas:
1. Volunteer Promotion: Endorsing
volunteer activity in Greater Sudbury and surrounding areas is accomplished
by stressing both the social and personal benefits of volunteering. Current
marketing plans involve an integrative approach to community promotion.
Bilingual posters and brochures work in unison to raise awareness of Volunteer
Sudbury's services, while event participation and public presentations play
a central role in showcasing our message to our target audiences. Work is
currently underway to update our online presence as well as showcase our
most recent program initiatives through various public relations channels.
2. Recruitment and Referral: The recruitment
and referral system, know as the Matching Program, links individuals interested
in volunteering with organizations in need of assistance. The Matching Program
is the result of previous Ontario Trillium Foundation funding and is made
available to all segments of the community.
3. Education: Volunteer Sudbury endeavors to
educate the community about volunteer related issues including but not limited
to: developments in volunteer screening policies and techniques, the rights
and responsibilities of volunteers and the Canadian code for volunteer involvement.
Since the incorporation of Volunteer Sudbury, we have partnered with over 80 community based organizations within Greater Sudbury, assisting these organizations in meeting their need for volunteers has bee a critical service. We endeavor to assist these organizations meet their volunteer needs, as well as providing a educational forum for organizations.
